Monuments:

Iwo Jima Memorial – by Arlington Cemetery

Washington Monument

World War II Memorial

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Jefferson Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

World War I

Martin Luther King Jr Memorial

Civil War Memorial and Museum

Pentagon 9/11

My favorites are the Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington. Try a monuments tour at night to beat the heat and I actually think they are cooler lit up. Plus the reflection of the Washington Monument in the pool at the Lincoln Memorial at night is magical.

You need 30 day advance tickets to go up the Washington Monument. https://www.nps.gov/wamo/planyourvisit/fees.htm The Lincoln Monument is under renovations right now, but is still worth visiting.
